Movie Review by Nigel A. Messenger

Starring: Paul Walker, Jessica Alba, Scott Caan, Ashley Scott, Josh Brolin
Director: John Stockwell

So many films nowadays forget about the story. They grab some big name stars, a basic plot and a load of CGI, shake it all up and throw out a film – sometimes good, sometimes bad. INTO THE BLUE takes a different route, it’s story driven with big name stars added.

The stars are Paul Walker of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS fame, the gorgeous Jessica Alba most recently from THE FANTASTIC FOUR, SIN CITY and not to forget TV’s DARK ANGEL and the equally attractive Ashley Scott also from DARK ANGEL.

The story is has Jared (Paul Walker) and company finding a sunken ship full of treasure which they could legally claim and reap the reward if they could afford the equipment to raise it, but they also find a crashed plane on the seabed full of drugs which if they report to the police would attract attention to the dive zone and not give them time to raise the money to recover the lost treasure. Also to complicate matters the local police, who are looking for drug runners, seem very interested in their activities and going to the wrong people to raise money for equipment adds more complications.

What I really liked about this movie is the way the characters get forced into situations every time they choose to do something – every action causes a reaction (to quote from THE MATRIX RELOADED) but the reaction is not what they expect. It all comes down to corruption, drugs, a double cross and some very hungry sharks! This is a well thought out story but don’t worry, it’s not a brain twister, as everything seems to remain clear as it unfolds, probably due to the relaxed pace of the film.

INTO THE BLUE is a very enjoyable adventure movie, which shouldn’t be underrated. It’s got a good story that flows at just he right pace with a hot looking cast that blend well together.

Bundle all this up with the beautiful and sunny locations of the Bahamas plus some superb underwater photography and we get a really good solid film with action in all the right places.

I loved its style and its stars – if only more movies were as good as this!
