This spoof of heavy-metal culture revolves around a dimwitted garage band
known as ‘The Lone Rangers’. Likeable
singer-songwriter Chazz (Brendan Fraser), sweet but simple bass player Pip
(Adam Sandler) and self-absorbed, aging drummer Rex (Steve Buscemi), are
so desperate to hear their music played on the airwaves that they sneak
into local radio station KPPX, demo-tape in hand.
Unfortunately, their efforts are met with sarcasm by the burned-out
DJ (Joe Mantegna), and Chazz angrily pulls out a realistic-looking uzi
water-pistol. Before they
know it, the band have eight hostages, and the station is surrounded by
squad cars and media, along with the best publicity they could ever want.
Directed by Michael Lehmann (Heathers),
the hilarious Airheads parodies
all the silliness of heavy metal from the lingo and the look to the
ridiculous lyrics and clichéd guitar licks.
