Romantic comedies come in different shapes and sizes. While some favour the syrupy chick-flick variety A GUY THING is definitely leaning towards the guy’s point of view and fortunately there’s no syrup in sight.

When Paul (Jason Lee) has his bachelor party he wakes up the morning after in bed with Becky (Julia Stiles), a girl he met the night before. The problem is he thinks he is in love with his prim and proper fiancee Karen (Selma Blair) so he quickly gets rid of Becky as fast as he can.

But problems are just around the corner as Becky is Karen’s cousin and she’s coming to the wedding, plus Becky’s ex-boyfriend is a psycho-cop with a huge jealousy problem as well as a set of photos of Paul with Becky.

A GUY THING is really a straightforward comedy with a romance in it rather than what usually leaps into the mind when you hear the words ‘romantic comedy’.

There are plenty of genuine laughs and of course a happy ending for all… aahh – well what did you expect? But it’s the laugh ratio that counts here and there’s enough to make it worth your while even if you can’t quite remember the jokes a week later – or is that a guy thing?
