IRON MAN is, in my opinion, the best superhero movie of the year!

Quite a statement to open a review with I know, but there it is. When a film is as entertaining as this you might as well say so up front.

Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Stark playboy billionaire and US Government’s top weapons contractor and a genius. He works hard, plays hard and has a stable of beautiful women as companions. But one day on his way to a weapons demonstration he is attacked and kidnapped by terrorists and ordered to build them a devastating weapon. Instead he build a rocket powered suit of armour. It’s crude but it works and allows him to escape his captors.

But as soon as he is back in the real world he states publicly that he wants to change the direction of his business enterprises. I secret he rebuilds his rocket powered suit of armour and equips it with high tech weaponry.

His mission – to protect the world and destroy the terrorist threat.

Years ago during the world wars heroes in comics were used to raise the moral of the public with stories of Superman and the like wreaking havoc on the enemy. Perhaps in this movie IRON MAM does the same thing, or may be it’s just that the story is so well told, the film so well paced and Robert Downey Jr is so likable on screen that the movie really can’t help but be one of the best big screen comic book adaptations that’s been made.

IRON MAN has just the right balance of action, humour, glamour and tension to launch what could be one of the best movie franchises to hit the big screen.

In addition the DVD release has a selection of extended and deleted scenes and the Ultimate 2 disc version has almost four hours of extras, or if you prefer the Blu-ray as it has all of the extras too.
