2002 was always going to be the year of the sequel and here we have another highly anticipated blockbuster offering.

As everyone who saw the first instalment knows the highly experienced Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) had his memory wiped at the end of the last movie leaving Agent Jay (Will Smith) to kick alien butt and keep the planet’s alien population in order.

Now in number 2 Agent Jay has a new partner who’s an alien disguised as a dog. Agent Jay is handling things in his own unique way until a new threat heads for Earth in the form of the sexy but ultimately evil Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle). Serleena is looking for an incredibly dangerous object that in the wrong hands could destroy the planet. Agent Jay must find the object first but as you’ve probably guessed the only person who knows its location is Agent Kay and he has lost his memory.

There’s lots of screen action along the way in this glossy blockbuster and plenty of humour from Will Smith. Tommy Lee Jones seems to just walk through it although this deadpan acting may just be his portrayal of the character. Lara Flynn Boyle is excellent as the baddie. She seems to have the sexy, evil, bad girl part perfected. I always thought she was good in this type of role when I saw her in the little known TV series THE FIFTH CORNER although she wasn’t an alien there.

All in all MEN IN BLACK 2 manages to deliver all the fun, effects and excitement of the first. It works Agent Kay back into the story and of course leaves everything in place for another multimillion-dollar money-spinner to be made.

Great fun – well done!
