Popular movie destinations

How many times has it happened for you to watch a movie and see a fascinating location, and suddenly you wished to be there? Apparently, it happens to anyone, and sometimes that leads to an increase in tourism in places where tourists never went. Remember what happened to New Zealand after that epic scene in Lord of the Rings? It was an exodus, but it was something amazing to witness. These days, however, there are other top destinations where people go just because they saw it in a movie and fell in love. Here are the most remarkable.

Pondicherry, India
We all loved The Life of Pi, which is why Pondicherry has increased its number of tourists after the movie came out. The location is every bit as charming in reality as it is in the film. However, if you ever get there, do not waste any time looking for the zoo where Pi’s father worked. You will not find it because it does not exist. Instead, go and see the city’s botanical gardens. That is where the zoo scenes were filmed. As for the town itself, you will find the colonial quarter with the beautiful little pastel houses. The Grand Bazaar is also something that you want to see. At the same time, keep in mind that you will need a visa to enter India, but you can get an Indian electronic visa, which is a lot simpler to get than the one from the embassy.

Bruges, Belgium
In Bruges was, and still is, something that can make you laugh no matter what. You know the story, but do you know the place where the action took place? Belgium is overall a beautiful country, but Bruges (or Brugge) has a particular charm. You know those small towns where you can see a lot of beautiful landmarks? Bruges is one of them. Of course, the word small may seem relative, but you will enjoy it nonetheless. You can see the Belfry, and you cannot leave without taking a boat down the canal.

Italy
If you are looking for an excuse to go and see Italy, you should know that The Talented Mr. Ripley was filmed there. The movie is not new, but we were all charmed (especially the ladies) by the whole thing. You can probably recognize Rome and Venice, but do not go looking for the Mongibello town resort. That is because it does not exist. Instead, there are two islands in the Bay of Naples, which are gorgeous by the way. The fishing village of Corricela is real, although you will not get that from the movie. At the end of the day, you do not need an excuse to visit Italy, but if you are a fan of The Talented Mr. Ripley, you have one extra reason to go. It is a gorgeous country, and you will enjoy it tremendously.

The list can go on, but each to its own. When you search for popular movie destinations, do not go only for new movies. Perhaps you are not a fan of the classics either, but a good film does not age, and at the end of the day, the location is still there. So, even if you like a movie from the 50’, chances are that the filming sites are there for you to enjoy.
