Prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) abandons his quest to avenge his father and boards a vessel to the Orkney Islands with his lover, the Slavic sorceress Olga of the Birch Forest (Anya Taylor-Joy). During the voyage, Amleth discovers Olga is pregnant with twins. Remembering the Seeress’s Maiden-King prophecy, Amleth concludes his children will never be safe as long as Fjölnir the Brotherless (Claes Bang) lives. Olga tearfully begs Amleth to stay, but the prince dives overboard and swims back to shore, vowing to protect his family.
