I liked the first two AMERICAN PIE films a lot, so you would think that I
would have really been looking forward to the third instalment, but I have
to admit that I was apprehensive about the prospect of another slice of
PIE. I just didn’t think they could pull off enough fresh laughs on a
third visit. How wrong I was! My only doubt at the end of the movie was
did I actually stop laughing at any point in the screening.
AMERICAN PIE 3 dumps the peripheral characters from the first two and
concentrates on Jim Levinstein (Jason Biggs) who is getting married to
Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) while Stifler (Seann William Scott) does
everything possible to create as much constant havoc as he can. Finch
(Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) are still there to
lend support and Jim’s dad (Eugene Levy) is back to give his unique
brand of advice.
We do get some new faces with Cadence (January Jones) playing Michelle’s
sister and the object of Stifler’s desire, plus an excellent scene with
two very hot girls, Officer Krystal (Nikki Schieler Ziering) and Fraulein
Brandi (Amanda Swiston) who will stick in most males’ minds!
So what about the main joke that will be the “killer app” on which to
sell the movie? They all have one don’t they? Not AMERICAN PIE 3! Not
one that is but countless most memorable scenes that you won’t ever
forget. There’s the aforementioned pair of hotties in a French
maid/S&M attempted stag night piece (unbelievably hilarious), the
wedding ring in chocolate truffle/dog shit (gross-out can’t watch
laughter), blow job in dark closet (don’t even wanna think about it),
pubic hair in cake (really-believe it) and who will ever forget the
Stifler dance-off in a gay bar (fantastic) - the list really does go on
and on.
The filmmakers have thrown everything into this. If you only see one
comedy this year or even this decade, this has to be it. AMERICAN PIE 3 is
like two movies, one comedy with Jason Biggs’ character and another
riotous comedy with Seann William Scott’s Stifler running right the way
across the first one. They are both good but together they are comic
genius.
AMERICAN PIE: AMERICAN WEDDING should really be called STILFER’S MOVIE -
he’s in almost every scene and Seann William Scott works overtime to
make Stifler the funniest, loudest and most outrageous larger than life
character in the movie - and it works.
I really can’t say enough about how good this movie is. AMERICAN PIE 3
is the best PIE so far - by a mile!
