Father Manolo, the school principal and their literature teacher, is witness to and part of their discoveries. The three characters meet again, at the end of the 70s and in the 80s and on each occasion they learn more about the lives and deaths of those closest to them. Madrid,1980. A young and successful film director, Enrique Goded (Fele Martínez, Talk to Her) is searching for an idea for his next film. One day, whilst scouring newspapers for a worthwhile story to translate to the screen, he is visited by a childhood friend, Ignacio Rodriguez (Bernal, The Motorcycle Diaries, Amores Perros) who is now an actor going by the name of Angel Andrade. He gives Enrique a short story called ‘The Visit’ based on the experiences that he and Enrique had at school 16 years earlier. The short story recalls the two boys love for each other and how their school principal and literature teacher, Father Manolo (Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Y tu Mamá También) expelled Enrique because he himself was in love with Ignacio. Despite Enrique’s enthusiasm for the story, he doesn’t agree with Angel’s wish to play the lead. However, he eventually gives in and the two become lovers, but the deeper they delve into the past, the more questions are raised including whether Angel really is the man he professes to be. Alternating between both fact and fiction, this is an intricately woven thriller that leaps from the present to the past in the most stylish of ways. On DVD, BAD EDUCATION is the first Almódovar (Talk to Her, All About My Mother) film to feature an array of fascinating special features including an interview with Pedro Almódovar, deleted scenes, trailers, television spots, a ‘making of’ montage, photo gallery and a press book.
