Synopsis
A ballerina at the New York City ballet, Nina (Natalie Portman) is a
dedicated professional. She lives with her mother Erica (Barbara
Hershey) who ardently supports her daughter. When artistic director
Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) chooses to replace prima ballerina
Beth Macintyre (Winona Ryder) for the new Swan Lake production, his
first choice is Nina who could portray the White Swan perfectly.
However he is also drawn to rival ballerina and newcomer, Lily (Mila
Kunis) who he can vividly see as being perfect for the Black Swan
role.
As ambition takes centre stage, the two young dancers become rivals
each endeavouring to be the preferred choice of Thomas. Meanwhile
Nina embraces her dark side with increasing abandonment that
threatens to consume and destroy her.
