For 60 years a mysterious monk with no name has zigzagged the globe protecting an ancient scroll - a scroll that holds the key to unlimited power. Now the Monk must look for a new scrollkeeper. The Nazis are hot on the heels of the monk on their mission to find the scroll and unearth it’s mystical powers. The monk, sensing danger ahead, passes on his powers to a young trainee (Chow Yun-Fat) Immediately the Monk withers and ages, his body taking in all the hardships of the past 60 years. The trainee becomes The Monk With No Name as he absorbs the secrets of the scroll - The Scroll of Ultimate Truth. Meanwhile, a Nazi soldier, Strucker (Karel Roden, BLADE II) sets out to capture the scroll and eliminate its guardian. Little does he know that the Monk is immortal. He’s Bulletproof… The Monk flees the Nazis and sixty years later, the action switches to present day New York where he is targeted by a petty pickpocket, Kar (Seann William Scott). Kar inadvertently becomes involved in the task of keeping the Ultimate Scroll out of the hands of Strucker and his scheming granddaughter Nina (Victoria Smurfit, Ballykissangel) Kar is an unlikely candidate to become keeper of the scroll, a streetwise young man whose only interest is himself. But when he inadvertently saves the Bulletproof Monk from capture, the two become partners in a scheme to save the world from the scroll's most avid pursuer. The Monk, Kar, and a sexy Russian mob princess called Bad Girl (Jaime King, SLACKERS) must struggle to find, face, and fight the ultimate enemy. Based on the underground comic book, the film is produced by the legendary John Woo (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2, FACE/OFF). BULLETPROOF MONK is a high octane adventure story combining spectacular special effects and martial arts action.
