Synopsis

1948. Father Lankester Merrin (Stellan Skarsgård) is now working in British East Africa as an archaeologist excavating a site when his team unearth an ancient but well preserved Byzantine church. Further exploration reveals an ancient crypt and evidence of Satanic ritual.

Superstition and fear abound as the local inhabitants fear the excavation of the church has unleashed an evil spirit and young Father Francis (Gabriel Mann) is increasingly concerned for a boy he thinks may have become possessed by it.

Spurred into action Father Merrin re-evaluates his lost faith believing this may be their only hope of survival in the face of such dark evil, the demon Pazuzu.
