At a Han River food stand owned by his father Park Hie-bong (Byun Hee-bong), Gang-du (SONG Kang-ho) has dozed off in the afternoon sun but is abruptly woken by his daughter Park Hyun-seo (Ko A-sung) returning home from school complaining amongst other thing about her old-fashioned mobile phone. Now thoroughly awake Gang-du walks out to the riverbank to deliver some squid, when he mingles with a crowd talking excitedly and witnessing a strange spectacle. An unknown 'something' is hanging from the Han River Bridge, and moving. The fascinated people start taking shots with their phones and digital cameras...until the 'thing' climbs up onto the riverbank and begins to crush and eat them! The Han River resort area turns into a living hell in a matter of seconds. Gang-du runs madly with Hyun-seo in tow, but disastrously loses her amid the panicking and screaming crowd. Panic-stricken, he has just enough time to witness the mind-shattering sight of the creature snatching Hyun-seo and disappearing back into the river. |
