Synopsis
Set in rural Brittany, LOVE LIKE POISON is a coming-of-age drama
which skilfully combines sexual frankness with a captivating sense
of innocence. The directorial debut of Katell Quillévéré, the
film was a surprise, yet deserved, critical hit at the 2010 Cannes
Film Festival.
Anna (newcomer, Clara Augarde), a young teenager, comes home from
her Catholic boarding school for the holidays and discovers her
father has left. Her mother is totally devastated and seeks out her
childhood friend who is also a local priest. Anna looks to her
beloved grandfather for support.
She also grows close to Pierre, a free-spirited teenager who cares
little about God. Anna is preparing for her confirmation, but her
budding desire for Pierre shakes her faith. She longs to give
herself over, body and soul but doesn't know if it is to God, or
something else...?
The beauty of the Brittany landscape is captured by cinematographer
Tom Harari. A diverse soundtrack includes English folk songs, church
choirs and a choral rendition of Radiohead's 'Creep'.
