Mr Bean wins first prize in a church raffle of a trip by train to the French Riviera, video camera included. Mr Bean's holiday commences. He boards the Eurostar to Paris and in no time at all arrives at The Gare du Nord. Bean starts to film the scene around him with his new video camera. He films a busker and a woman, Sabine (Emma De Caunes), who stops to give the busker money. A confusion at the taxi stand means Bean ends up in La Defense rather than the intended Gare du Lyon. Using a map and his compass Bean sets off in a straight line for the station. He walks straight across the traffic at the Arc de Triomphe, through a busy restaurant and unwittingly becomes the object of paparazzi photographers when he obscures their intended target, film director Carson Clay (Willem Dafoe). Bean arrives at the Gare Du Lyon but has missed his train to Cannes so he passes the time at a station restaurant where he is served with a seafood platter. On the platform he asks a Russian man, Emil (Karel Roden), to film him. He obliges but is left standing on the platform as the train pulls away. Bean realises Emil’s son Stepan (Max Baldry) is left alone on the train. At the next station Stepan leaves the train with Bean’s camera and when Bean follows him, the train departs leaving his bag on board. A fast train passes, Emil is on it, he has a sign with a phone number on it and his destination “Cannes”. Bean films the phone number, but the last digits are obscured by Emil’s fingers. Bean and Stepan board the next train south but Bean realises he has left his wallet on the platform and the ticketless two are soon ejected from the train. Mr Bean's idyllic holiday in Cannes lying on a beach is rapidly turning into a nightmare, as one mishap after another is slowing building into a disastrous scenario.
