As Hulot (Jacques Tati) wanders through the massive metropolis especially constructed for the film, the spectator cannot hope to comprehend its complete topography on a single viewing and ends by browsing rather than reading the imagery. In this recently restored rarity of rarities, an avant-garde, near-abstract comedy, the screen is transformed into a vast playground. |
