Synopsis

The Dominican Republic is a tropical tourist paradise but out of sight thousands of dispossessed Haitians work 12 hour days 7 days a week, often without basic necessities, harvesting sugar cane in the plantations there.

When a charismatic Spanish priest called Father Christopher Hartley arrives in the Dominican Republic he i warned not to visit the plantations where many of his parishioners live. THE PRICE OF SUGAR is a documentary that lifts the lid and exposes these modern-day slavery practises that apparently exist within the global sugar trade.
