Synopsis
Oscar winner Kevin Kline (A FISH CALLED WANDA) in his first
French-speaking role stars with French actress Sandrine Bonnaire
(VAGABOND) in this stylish and sophisticated drama/comedy of
newfound passions and mid-life triumphs.
Set on the idyllic picturesque island of Corsica, Hélène (Sandrine
Bonnaire), a quiet but intelligent chambermaid, discovers she has a
knack for chess. Her obsession for chess - much to the chagrin of
her husband and teenage daughter - leads her to seek the help of a
reclusive American doctor (Kevin Kline). Their resulting liaison
radically transforms both of their lackluster lives.
