Synopsis
1979: Election Night
In a police interview room sits Delroy (Clint Dyer), who has just
been arrested on suspicion of the murder. His pregnant wife has been
discovered dead, lying in a pool of blood, and he is brought in for
questioning as the chief suspect. Interrogated by Detective Sergeant
Karn (Ralph Brown) - a witty, psychotic racist - and his violent
sidekick Detective Constable Wilby (Rafe Spall), they try to coerce
him into a quick confession.
Set against the backdrop of election night, both policemen are high
on the prospect of a Conservative landslide victory. With scant
regard for their suspect’s rights their interrogation gets
underway. Callous humiliation gives way to a barrage of sinister
violence, leading to a devastating conclusion.
From Barrie Keeffe, the writer of the British classic THE LONG GOOD
FRIDAY and based on a true story, SUS is a gripping and emotionally
fuelled drama, with dialogue crackling in humour and insight. It is
also a powerful outcry against institutional racism and of course
the ever controversial SUS laws. It pulls no punches in its
depiction of a corrupt system that fails the very people it should
protect.
