Synopsis

Written and directed by Joshua Michael Stern (NEVERWAS), SWING VOTE takes a comical look at the journey of a father and daughter who discover that everyone has the power to change the world.

 It follows the story of Earnest “Bud” Johnson (Costner) an apathetic, beer-slinging but lovable loser who is coasting through a life that has passed him by. Bud’s one bright spot is his precocious 12 year-old daughter Molly (Madeline Carroll). She takes care of both of them, until one mischievous moment on Election Day when she accidentally sets off a chain of events which culminates in the election coming down to one vote – her dad’s.

Suddenly Bud Johnson, the nobody, becomes the voice for everybody, when the world realises that his vote will be the one that elects the next president. Politicians overwhelm the town and its unwitting inhabitants, waging war for Bud’s vote. In a time when it is common for election results to be all too close this town is about to find out the impact of a major campaign in overdrive. Soon, even Bud’s ill-conceived notions become matters of debate.

People hang on to every ridiculous word out of his mouth. He is pushed, pulled and ultimately finds himself lost in the mayhem. His daughter maintains the only shred of sanity as she prods her dad to make the right choice.

SWING VOTE is a heart-warming comedy drama that features an all-star cast including Academy Award®-winner Kevin Costner (DANCES WITH WOLVES; ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES), Kelsey Grammer (FRASIER), Dennis Hopper (BLUE VELVET), Nathan Lane (THE PRODUCERS), Stanley Tucci (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) and Paula Patton (DÉJÀ VU; HITCH).
