Isidor Navarro's Tortilla Heaven is the best restaurant in town, maybe even the world. But though his tortillas are scrumptious, his enchiladas divine, Isidor has never made a dime. Why? Falfúrrias only has a population of 73 and is 3 miles from the highway, and the only thing linking them to the rest of humanity is, as they call it, a pinche dirt road. Which isn’t a good thing. One Sunday while the rest of town piously prays the Lord’s Mass, Isidor makes tortillas for the lunchtime crowd. But today he’s having trouble with the dough. One tortilla comes out wrong but after tossing it onto the comal (grill the tortilla begins to burn, in a very special way, so that the face of Jesus Christ appears. It’s a miracle that threatens to turn this sleepy community upside down as word spreads like wildfire and the pilgrims come from all around the State. The movie stars José Zúñiga, George Lopez and tells the hilarious and heartwarming story of a down on his luck restaurant owner who’s fortunes suddenly change when the image of Jesus appears on one of his hand made tortillas. |
