Synopsis

Huntingdon, West Virginia is a small town whose community has for decades been strongly supportive of college football especially the local team - Marshall University's 'Thundering Herd'. For the team and townsfolk Marshall football is more than just a sport - it's a way of life.

But the local community is irrevocably devastated one fateful night in 1970. Flying back after a match in North Carolina, 75 members of Marshall's football squad and coaching staff are killed in a plane crash. Struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss, the grieving families begin to recover when a young coach, Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey), spearheads a plan to rebuild Marshall's football program. His determination ultimately helps to heal a shattered community.
