Synopsis

A post office manager in Salon-de- Provence, Philippe Abrams, puts in a transfer to the Cote D'Azur to please his wife but tries to cheat the system and is transferred to Bergues in the north of France instead.

Leaving his depressive wife behind he finds himself surprised when he actually likes this small town and becomes friends with Antoine, the postman and village bell-ringer.

Returning to Salon but his wife refuses to believe her husband that he actually likes living in Bergues. Accusing him of trying to deliberately upset her with his news, Philippe decides to make his life easier by telling her the opposite that Bergues is hell...

Now living a lie he settles into a cosy routine of enjoying himself alone in Bergues and being pampered by Julie on his return to Salon until Julie decides to join Philippe in Bergues. Philippe confesses to his new friends and co-workers the lies he's been telling about them to Julie and somehow manages to convince them to make his wife's visit the worst one of her life!
