Synopsis

Funny, touching, honest and sexy, Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN tells the story of Julio Zapata (Gael García Bernal) and Tenoch Iturbide (Diego Luna), their friendship, their culture and the headlong journey into adulthood.

With their girlfriends away for the summer, wealthy teenagers Tenoch and Julio are at a loose end with little to do. They meet an older, mysterious woman called Luisa Cortés (Maribel Verdú) at a family gathering who they get chatting to. Trying to impress Luisa, the friends invite her on a road trip to a beautiful, secret beach called Boca del Cielo (Heaven's Mouth) neglecting to mention it doesn't exist. Luisa is desperate for a break and wants to get away herself so as she's interested in finding out where this secret beach is, she decides to join up with them. The trio quit Mexico City and start travelling towards the fictional destination. What follows next is a tale of innocence, discovery and sexual awakening.

Director Alfonso Cuarón and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki combine their acclaimed visual poetry with raucous laughter, searing eroticism and ultimately, a profound sadness for a particular moment in time, how it was lived and lost.
