Adem – These Are Your Friends

Single Review by Mark Bayross

THESE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is taken from the former Fridge member Adem’s highly-regarded debut solo album HOMESONGS and, despite not being the most immediate cut, is fairly typical of the long player in acoustic warmth, lo-fi percussion and wracked vocals.

B-sides AFTER THE STORM and LET IT BURN then outdo the title track for crawling depressiveness – how’s “My son had died they told me / during the storm” for a cheery opening line?

Fun for miserablists everywhere.
