Airlock – Face Down

EP Review by Mark Bayross

Brussels-based Airlock have served up this EP as a tantalising taster for their forthcoming album, DRYSTAR and, on the strength of this, the long-player should be worth investigation.

Scottish-born singer Esra Tasasiz supplies the vocal warmth, while the Belgian trio of Renauld Charlier, Pierre Mussche and Ernst Meinwrath envelop her soothing voice with some appropriately lush electronics.

If this all sounds a little like a non-sinister Massive Attack, then you’re not far off, although the chart-friendly title song and the jazzy ESCAPE both hover closer to Dido territory. Airlock can dirty things up when they want to, though:DRAMATIC and MOVEMENT IN THE SECOND CITY both feature copious amounts of Portishead-style scratching from touring band member DJ Risk.

If they can vary the program a bit, the album should make interesting listening.
