Binaural – Last Reaction

Album Review by EDF

The rock scene seems to be entering a stagnant phase where it seems to be heading towards uncharted territory. Meanwhile, Binaural, a quartet from Massachusetts provides us with a mixture of the old and the new. Using a mixture of decent riffs and catchy choruses, Binaural mostly delivers a decent album. The opening couple of tracks are a great introduction to the group but then MORE sounds like the band has not quite stamped their authority on this track. This is nearly forgiven as the next track WICKED cleverly keeps some of the instruments in the background for the verses. The acoustic half to TIME & AGAIN is let down by Greg Caproni’s vocal delivery who replaces emotion for volume.

I am not saying that Caproni does not know how to sing; he just needs to realise when to hold back. Caproni does kind of hold back on the other quieter track, ONE LAST TIME but at times he sounds like he is struggling to sing it a little bit softer. On STRUGGLE the group gives it everything, making this track one of the highlights on the album. Even though the group formed in 2002, Binaural sound like they are still finding their feet and going by the evidence from this album, all the right components are in place for this group to take things to the next level.
