Single Review by Mark Bayross

Now signed to Dreamworks, and with a 200 000-selling debut album behind them, Long Island’s Brand New have got off to a flying start. Album number two, DEJA ENTENDU, is waiting in the wings, but first we have THE QUIET THINGS THAT NO-ONE EVER KNOWS as its lead single.

All of the emo elements are present and correct – punk guitars, huge production, singalong chorus, that just-been-dumped feeling – but, catchy as it is, there’s nothing here that’s particularly new. And as if this wasn’t emo enough, the B-side, the acoustic JUDE LAW AND A SEMESTER ABROAD (from debut album YOUR FAVOURITE WEAPON), could hardly sound more heartbroken.

Boy, these emo song titles are hard on my keyboard…
