Single Review by Mark Bayross

Sub-titled “Not In My Name”, Chumbawamba have re-written JACOB’S LADDER from their latest album READYMADES and released it as an anti-war protest song aimed directly at which they see as the exploitation of the global paranoia about terrorism by Bush, Blair and the industrial-military complex in order to wage war and profit from the proceeds.

Their assertion that September 11 has been “re-branded 9/11” to facilitate a legitimisation of the “War On Terror” in any form may be a bit wide of the mark, but it’s still a catchy tune and I wholeheartedly support bands who make any kind of a stand in this homogenised media world of Pop Idols and Fame Academy.

The single comes backed with the original album version (which makes for interesting comparison) and a new song, ROUND ‘EM UP AND THROW ‘EM IN, which follows a similar path of polished electronics and folky vocals to the album, even if it does sound sporadically like The Fall.
