EP Review by Mark Bayross

Since leaving a string of bands behind him and embarking on a solo career as The Crayon Theatrical in 1996, Lebanon, Ohio’s Michael Homyk has released a number of home-recorded EPs on cassette. This is his first CD release, still home-recorded, and put out on his Scabby Brooks record label.

Although only six songs and 16 minutes long, the EP is infused with psychedelic guitars, bubbling drum patterns and Homyk’s dreamy, occasionally distorted, delivery. After a sedate first couple of tracks, the interesting guitar effects on JIGSAW GIRL and trippy wig-out of GALESBURG suggest there’s more to The Crayon Theatrical than mushroom-enhanced fireside strum-a-longs.
