Deckard – Holy Rolling

Single Review by Mark Bayross

Deckard’s second album DREAMS OF DYNAMITE AND DIVINITY was something of a revelation, a dynamic collision of driving Pixies rhythms and soaring Muse operatics. Now the ace HOLY ROLLING gets a single release, as a seven-track EP no less.

The song was one of the stand-out tracks on an impressive album, and here it’s joined by some equally impressive new songs: NOTHING MORE is a widescreen epic that could make Keane jealous, while BY THE HARBOUR is equal parts Placebo glam and Verve psychedelia. The aptly-named SLEEPWALK is comparatively uneventful, although it does briefly hit the “rock out” button halfway through, but it’s followed by THE TRUTH WILL DO, a duet with ex-Snake River Conspiracy sexpot Tobey Torres and that’s as good a reason as any to pick this up.

Also included are two songs recorded live at Deckard’s sold out show at Glasgow’s King Tut’s, both of which may be unfamiliar as WHAT REASON is a song from their debut album and LOVE YOUR SELF ABUSE dates back from when the band were Baby Chaos.

Another excellent addition to Deckard’s canon.
