Envelopes – Free Jazz

Single Review by Mark Bayross

The fact that Envelopes comprise three Swedes and a Parisian, and used to be called The Nicotines, should be enough of an indication of what to expect here. If not, the title FREE JAZZ screams it loud and clear: plinky-plonky indie nonsense that’s as alien to tune or melody as it is meaning.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh here: B-side PUT ON HOLD has a satisfyingly entertaining electro-backing and there’s something vaguely appealing about the acid trip insanity of the excruciatingly named PINK CHRISTMAS.

I guess this will depend on your mood…could irritate you more than a fly trapped in your room while you’re lying head to toe in plaster – with an itchy elbow.
