Album Review by EDF

Coming from the city of Preston in the UK, all four members of the group are music graduates from the University of Central Lancashire. Even though they have been together since 2001, they have written over 50 songs, with this release being the follow-up to their debut album that was released in 2002. A first impression of this group is that at least they are not trying to be another Coldplay. You also realise that this group actually put a lot of effort in their lyrics and sound.

Listening to this you can imagine the group could set their instruments down anywhere and just perform live, dazzling their audience with musical masterful skill. There is a sense here that the group enjoys playing around with each song structure, adding hints of jazz to their pop sensibilities.

For those who can best remember the variety British music had to offer in the 1980’s with the likes of Hue and Cry, Swing out Sister and Matt Bianco churning out great sing along tunes will have an idea of what to expect. Translating that to today’s audience, they would more than likely attract the Cousteau fan base than say fans of Travis or Radiohead.

The final track on the CD is a hidden track of sorts. It’s an instrumental showcasing this group’s willingness to go off in any direction they want to. This is a very impressive album, mellow at times but enjoyable. With so much vision and energy, Frencheryk are devoting their time to touring, releasing a DVD and charity work.
