Funeral For A Friend – Juneau

Single Review by Mark Bayross

The song formerly known as JUNO on Funeral For A Friend’s debut EP BETWEEN ORDER AND A MODEL has here been reworked, given a posh new French title, and should see the Welsh band win similar acclaim to the likes of Hundred Reasons and Hell Is For Heroes.

Crammed full of rousing guitars and propulsive drumming, Matt Davies’ soaring vocals add yearning harmony to the mix, and you’ve got the makings of a hit. The line “yet I’m nothing more than a line in your book” may find the band in emo overdrive, but this is visceral, exciting stuff.

B-side GETAWAY PLAN is curiously reminiscent of KING FOR A DAY-era Faith No More, while the Radio One Rock Show recording of KISS AND MAKE UP (ALL BETS ARE OFF) is as raw and primal as you would expect from a live session, but this is all about JUNEAU and it shows just how far they’ve come in such a short space of time.

Fantastic – this has “breakthrough single” written all over it.
