Album Review by EDF

When the nights are long, sometimes you wish you had a great selection of music that epitomises what summer is all about. Hot summer days give way to nights where consuming cold drinks is not enough to keep you cool. What you need is a selection of tunes that will keep you going throughout the night and delivers you to a place where you can dream about the sun and what better then this year’s triple CD set from Base Bar Ibiza.

The first set of songs is in a chill-out mode. OPUS 15 – ‘Reflections’ kicks off an extremely laid back set. In fact, it is a bit too laid back and that is what it’s like for the opening four tracks. It is not until BATTISTESSA – ‘Let It Go’ comes along that the rest of this selection becomes groovier and this change of pace is very welcome. Not all the tracks are new; we are treated to forgotten gems like DUBSTAR – ‘Stars’ and SAINT ETIENNE – ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’.

The second set starts with the disco beat of MAMBENA – ‘Felicidad’ and with its Latin vibe, you now this is where the party starts. The highlight here is GADJO feat ‘ALEXANDRA PRINCE’ – ‘So Many Times’ which sounds like a party going on in your stereo. The rest of the CD plods along with only a few other tracks such as KUJAY DA DA – ‘Let The Music Play’ or the disco house of WHO DA FUNK – ‘The Night’ to take note of.

The third disc takes things up one more notch as we enter the full on club sound.

All in all, this collection has a bit over everything to suit the time of day or mood. Not all the tracks work but at least its fun.
