Album Review by EDF

This year’s MIX release from Hed Kandi is split over three Kandi genres. The first is the DISCO HEAVEN MIX which starts off with an old Kandi favourite, SOLU MUSIC’s ‘Fade’. The tracks range are groovy and funky and we are treated to 15 mixed tracks that will keep you dancing for nearly eighty minutes, if you so wish. What is on offer here will no doubt delight clubbers.

The TWISTED DISCO MIX offers up a slightly darker mix than the DISCO HEAVEN MIX. Here the playful, soulful sound from the first mix is replaced by an unforgiving electro sound that I find makes for a more interesting listen. Even a hook line from a famous early 80’s electro track appears on SHINY GREY’S ‘Why’ to very good effect. This is indeed the sound of a pulsating club representing what modern life is all about, that is if anybody really knows.

Of course my favourite mix out of the three was always going to be the BACK TO LOVE MIX. Ever since the final BACK TO LOVE title was released this year, I was looking forward to this mix. Only that this collection of tracks is not a mix, it’s more like half a BACK TO LOVE release as each track is unmixed and so they should be as these classic tracks are just in a class of their own. Starting off with the long forgotten ELECTRIBE 101 ‘Talking With Myself’, we are treated to others such as DSK ‘What Would We Do’ and the fantastic SOUND OF BLACKNESS’ ‘The Pressure Part 1’.

The great thing about Hed Kandi is that with each release, you always feel that you are partaking in the best that house music has to offer. With these three mixes, there is no better to see in the year 2006 with.
