Single Review by Mark Bayross

Calling your single UNTITLED #1 may not be the most commercially lucrative strategy, but then neither is only releasing it on 7” vinyl. Still, you get the feeling that the Manchester trio don’t really care – this whimsical acoustic melody has a summery vibe that is bound to appeal to the square glasses brigade at NME Towers. It evidently appeals to Turin Brakes too, as they have been opening for the nu-acoustic kingpins on their current UK tour.

B-side MERMEN is a slightly skewed slo-mo instrumental of surf guitar and ghostly ambience – diverting but not essential. Not exactly world-changing stuff, then, but fans of the gentler guitar sound will undoubtedly approve. Plus there’s a new album just round the corner.
