Album Review by EDF

Native New Yorker Jill Simon met Thomas Simon from Vienna, Austria in the East Village district of New York and set up Love Alien. Even though they are big in the New York underground scene, the group have toured the States, Canada and Europe extensively, even performing a gig in Israel. They have also performed at charity and protest rallies which should come as no surprise to those who follow the group. IN THE WAVES is the group’s fourth album.

With its mix of distorted guitar and reliable vocals from Jill, this duo have roped in various musicians along the way, including members of Public Enemy and Sarah McLachlan’s band. LOVE ALIEN brings with them a somewhat dark vision of the world around them. This album continues the group’s exploration on those themes and even though this album is not the most commercial that you will hear, fans of alternative music will like this. On average LOVE ALIEN releases a new album every couple of years, which leaves time for the two Simon’s to get involved in various theatre and movie projects. You kind of get a feeling that the group still have a lot more to get out of their system.
