Single Review by Nigel A. Messenger

Madonna is back and has rekindled her hugely successful working relationship with producer William Orbit to do a cover version of Don McLean’s classic pop song AMERICAN PIE – originally a No.2 hit in 1972.

Retaining the essential elements of the track but injecting it with Orbit’s innovative technical genius, AMERICAN PIE is destined to be a massive worldwide hit.

The single is released on 3 formats (2 CD’s and cassette), all of which will include the radio edit of the single mixed by Richard ‘Humpty’ Vission (Martha Wash, Lisa Marie Experience, Todd Terry). Victor Calderone, who remixed DROWNED WORLD/SUBSTITUTE FOR LOVE, RAY OF LIGHT and BEAUTIFUL STRANGER has also contributed 2 reworkings of the track – Calderone Filter Dub, and Calderone Vocal Dub.

The single is taken from the soundtrack to the forthcoming movie THE NEXT BEST TING which stars Madonna and Rupert Everett – who sings backing vocals on the track. AMERICAN PIE and the brand new ballad TIME STOOD STILL – co-written by Madonna and Orbit – are both featured on the soundtrack which will be released in the UK on April 10th. The film opens in US cinemas in March and reaches the UK in April.

If you even thought you liked Madonna or just want to bring back memories of the 70’s, go and buy this single.
