Manchild – The Cliches Are True

Single Review by Mark Bayross

As the centrepiece to Manchild’s forthcoming debut album UNTIED STATES, THE CLICHES ARE TRUE is a typically funky slice of guitar-techno, as we have come to expect from the Cardiff-based duo.

They are helped out on vocals by fellow Welshman Kelly Jones of Stereophonics, while Utah Saints and Lionrock’s Justin Robinson perform remix duties. While it is catchy, and the guitars mix in nicely with the electronics, it lacks the punch of Manchild’s previous single, the Andy Cairns-fronted REHAB. Jones sounds like Rod Stewart with laryngitis, and the song doesn’t really go anywhere.

Nonetheless, rumour has it that Mr Material Girl, Guy Ritchie, has asked for it to be included on the soundtrack to his long-awaited LOCK, STOCK…” sequel, SNATCH so expect to hear it on the radio. A lot.
