Paul Oakenfold – Southern Sun / Ready Steady Go

Review by EDF

The first single from Oakenfold’s debut artist album BUNKKA is a double A side. SOUTHERN SUN, the lead track, is a trance chill-out track which is great after winding down from a night out clubbing. The other track, READY STEADY GO featuring Asher D is a Prodigy style dance tune with a repetitive guitar hook line. A promising start to Oakenfold’s original material.

This double ‘A’ side single is the first to be taken from Paul Oakenfold’s forthcoming debut artist album BUNKKA, for which the DJ has astonishingly managed to enlist star-turn vocals for every track, including Ice Cube, Perry Farrell, Tricky, Nelly Furtado and Hunter S Thompson.

While the Carla Werner-sung SOUTHERN SUN is fairly standard euphoric Ibiza disco-trance, READY STEADY GO is a bass-heavy big beat belter with vocals from So Solid Crew’s slammer-resident Asher D.

The two tracks make for an engaging contrast – the album should be interesting.
