Polly Paulusma – Over The Hill

Single Review by Mark Bayross

Over the hill? Hardly! Polly Paulusma must be all of about 25 at the most, although the fact that Michael Parkinson is one of her biggest advocates will hardly raise her cred with listeners of the same age.

Not that she cares, of course. SCISSORS IN MY POCKET, the lovingly-crafted debut album from which this single comes, is so deliberately middle of the road it could leave yellow lines behind it, and OVER THE HILL is a perfect example of it in bite-size. Gently strummed guitars, breathy soulful vocals and inoffensive, jazzy piano make for another sure-fire Radio 2 playlist position and can only add to her profile among Jamie Cullum fans.
