Shed Seven – Cry For Help

Single Review by Mark Bayross

Calling your comeback single CRY FOR HELP could hardly be among the smartest marketing ideas in the world. Good thing then that the song is such a catchy little bugger.

This is the first single to be taken from the York lads’ fourth album TRUTH BE TOLD, and it’s a defiantly nostalgic sweep of early nineties-style indie melancholia, replete with some rather pretty strings and an instantly infectious hook.

The B-sides are a bit more pedestrian, veering a bit too close to substandard Oasis (‘Patches’) and Inspiral Carpets (‘Working Miracle’) for these post-Coldplay days, but the A-side is endearing enough to make up for it.
