Spek – Smell The Coffee

Review by EDF

If you are bored with all of those same soul-less singles that are released weekly, then try this single from Spek. Filled with a catchy guitar hook, this funk / hip-hop track has an air of fun to it which means that it probably won’t get played on mainstream radio. SMELL THE COFFEE is taken from the Canadian’s album DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.

One of the more playful tracks on Spek’s debut album DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF, this has a summery vibe that may unfortunately see it sink without trace in these grey winter months. This would be a shame, as it’s a catchy, if lightweight slice of De La Soul-style hip hop.

Accompanying the truncated Radio Edit is a handful of remixes varying from the rap-heavy and stylish (nice one, Spooks) to the stripped-down and pointless (cheers, Hackney Soldiers) and the lengthy missed opportunity (can do better, Utah Saints).
