Terry Christopher – Take Another Look

Album Review by EDF

At the outset, I had a feeling I was going to like this and I’m glad I’m not proven wrong. Even though he was born and raised in Las Vegas, Terry Christopher now calls New York his home. Featuring in various musical stage productions that toured Europe, the US, Canada and Mexico, Terry decided the time was right to start recording his own songs which he wrote on the road. Citing influences ranging from The Beatles, Elton John, Earth Wind and Fire to Marvin Gaye, there is a strong presence here of these artists and more. The songs here are, not surprisingly, both catchy and groovy and Terry makes good use of those influences throughout.

FORKED TONGUE SHE DEVIL has hints of a funk groove while FREEDOM LOVE LOVE FREEDOM is a danceable track. AND THERE WERE YOU and TAKE MY HAND are both soft rock tracks and are complete opposites to the Latin flavoured LUST. Terry shows no fear as he weaves in and out of various musical styles. Even the last song on the album FRIEND’S AND HEROES about September 11 is not bleak due to Terry Christopher’s storytelling lyrics.

Luckily for Terry, he has found in multi-instrumentalist and programmer Michael LaGennusa a competent musician who brings out the best out of his songs. Throughout their effort and energy is evident on this excellent album.
