Overlook – Smoke And Mirrors

Music Review by Natalie Homer

Philadelphia based, OVERLOOK is comprised brothers Billy and Timmy Roach who together provide the textured ambient guitars, synths, solid vocals and dynamic rhythm section for this alternative rock sound.

It’s a cop out to make comparisons, I know – but how else can I explain the very accomplished sound of Overlook? Evoking the edginess associated with bands like Muse to Coldplay’s ambient and Arcade Fire’s magic, this self produced debut album SMOKE AND MIRRORS is not only ambitious but also proficient, well-crafted and brave.

“Our main objective with this album was to offer an honest, fully realized body of work that evolves emotionally from one song to another” says Billy Roach. Writing songs with modern day relevance and appeal, OVERLOOK explores themes of confusion, lack of perspective, self-doubt, hope and the need to be reminded of life’s beauty.

If you only get 5 minutes to yourself today you could do worse than to rock out to HEARTHEAVY and then get swept away by the melody of LESS IS MORE.
