Charlotte Hatherley – Summer

Single Review by Mark Bayross

Following on from her download-only single KIM WILDE, Charlotte Hatherley releases her first single proper from GREY WILL FADE, the appropriately-timed (or not in the case of the UK at the moment), SUMMER.

Making no attempt to hide her Pixies influence, SUMMER combines hooky guitars and handclaps with boogieing piano and some appropriately “where is my head?” style lyrics. At just under the five-minute mark, it may be a strange choice for a single, but it does a great job of encapsulating the immediacy of the album.

B-sides are the breezy COMMODORE and the fabulously raucous S.M.U.T., while the video is directed by Edgar “Spaced / Shaun Of The Dead” Wright. Expect a hit.
